PRODUCT PREPARATION
Due to a wide variety of substrates, preparation and application methods and environments, test the product in an inconspicuous spot for adhesion and compatibility prior to full scale application. All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil, paint, sealers, etc.
Newly poured concrete must cure for at least 45 days. Concrete must be etched with H&C® Concrete Etching Solution, follow label instructions. Surface should feel like 120-grit sandpaper, if not, then etch again. Allow 24 hours to dry prior to staining.
Asphalt: must be free of dirt, oil, grease, wax etc. Scrub with H&C® Cleaner Degreaser, following label instructions. DO NOT ETCH ASPHALT. We do not recommend staining if asphalt has been freshly sealed.
Previously painted: all old, peeling or flaking paint must be removed. Areas with firm adhesion must be clean and free of dirt, oil grease etc. Clean with H&C® Cleaner Degreaser, following label instructions. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. The remaining paint/coating should be rough sanded in a circular motion to ensure adhesion of H&C® Concrete Stain Solid Color Water-based. Rinse away sanding dust.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
*Air and surface temperature should be between 50 and 90°F. If the surface temperature exceeds 90°, spray a fine mist of water to reduce the temperature. Rain should not fall for 24 hours after application. Apply H&C® Concrete Stain Solid Color Water-Based to dry or even slightly damp surfaces.
*Intermix all containers together to ensure color uniformity.
For bare concrete, thin your first coat with one pint of water per gallon of stain. You do not need to do this step for asphalt, previously painted or vertical surfaces.
Apply first coat evenly, working in one direction. Allow to dry at least 2 hours before applying the second coat. Apply the second coat in the opposite direction to the first coat. Two coats are usually sufficient. Consider using H&C® Sharkgrip Slip-Resistant Additive to the final coat.
