Bag of Resurfacer

H&C® Resurfacer Texture Systems, Instant and Heavy Traffic

H&C Resurfacer Texture Systems are a high quality polymer modified portland and calcium aluminate cementitious systems designed to add texture to new or existing concrete flatwork. Each system creates an attractive and durable decorative finish that enhances all interior or exterior hardscapes.

Where to Use

  • Pool decks
  • Patios and walkways
  • Lanais
  • Driveways
  • Garage floors
  • "Instant" not recommended for vehicular traffic surfaces like garage floors and driveways

Key Advantages

H&C Resurfacer Texture systems have excellent adhesion and are cooler than regular concrete.  They resist mildew and are skid resistant.  The heavy traffic resurfacer is freeze/thaw resistant. This low maintenance, abrasion resistant polymer bagged good allows for multiple overcoat options, like any of H&C's Solid color stains or sealers

Product Data Sheet

  1. Product Supplies

    • Stiff broom
    • Garden hose with pressure washer nozzle
    • 1/2" variable speed power drill and mixing paddle
    • Clean, empty 5-gallon pail
    • Hopper gun
    • Air compressor
    • Spiked shoes
    • Rounded edge steel trowel
  2. Product Preparation

Resurfacer can be applied on clean, porous, sound concrete or masonry surfaces. Repair all cracks and remove all unsound concrete, grease, oil, paint, dirt and any other foreign materials that will inhibit performance. A combination of acid wash, de-greasing, high-pressure water blast, sand blast, shot blast, etc. may be required.

It is recommended that a test patch be performed whereby the product is applied to the substrate and examined for several days to confirm adequate surface preparation and a good bond.

  3. Product Application

**See our Gallery here on hcconcrete.com for numerous pictures of this process.

Use a mechanical mixer to combine approximately 5 quarts (4.75L) of water per 50 lb. bag (22.7 kg.). Use only clean tools and water. Gradually stir powder mixture into clean water until a thick workable mixture is obtained. Mix for approximately 3 minutes.

IMPORTANT: Before application, saturate the surface to be coated with water Saturate Surface Dry (SSD). Very porous concrete surfaces will require several applications of water to ensure complete saturation. Ensure surface is dry and no puddles prior to application.

Use a hopper gun and air compressor unit or similar equipment to apply the material. Vary the size of the orifice and air pressure to achieve the desired pattern. Standard air pressure will be between 15 and 35 p.s.i. FOR A KNOCKDOWN FINISH - When the splatters begin to look dull (as the moisture leaves), use a trowel to wipe down (knock down) the high spots.

Always test an area to confirm that is is the appropriate time and condition for troweling the texture. The pressure exerted on the trowel will determine the coarseness of the finish. Periodically clean bottom of trowel with a damp cloth.

Use immediately. Pot life is approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the temperature outside and relative humidity - the hotter it is and more humid, the less working time you will have. Do not add more than 6 quarts (5.67 liters) of water per 50 lb. bag (22.7 kg) of dry mix.  Do not use hot or tepid water, as it will shorten the working time of the Resurfacers.

If the application must be interrupted, finish at a natural break. Maintain all existing expansion and control joints.

On excessively hot days, it is suggested to use the material only if protected from the direct heat of the sun.  Extreme temperatures interfere with the curing of the material.

DO NOT apply product when air, mixture or substrate temperature is below 50°F (10°C) or above 100°F (38°C).

One 50 lb. (22.7 kg) bag will cover up to 150 sq. ft. (13.9 sq m2) in a splatter or knockdown finish. Coverage depends upon texture finish desired.

Texture will require a minimum of 4hrs. before topcoating. If temperatures are below 70°F (21°C) the textured surface will require a minimum of 24 hours drying before application of any topcoat. A sufficiently dried texture system will not leave a thumbnail impression in the surface. Completely brush with stiff broom, sweep clean and then apply the desired H&C® concrete stain or sealer. Follow manufacturer's application instructions.
